Russian company starts to modernize Syrdarya TPP in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo and Russian Power Machines are working on a phased modernization of power units at the Syrdarya thermal power plant, the press service of Uzbekenergo said.
PJSC “Power Machines” started shipment of equipment, in December 2018, equipment for the amount of 5.0 million euros arrived.
The reconstruction project is supposed to be carried out in 3 stages: in 2018-2019 - power units No. 3 and No. 4, in 2019-2020 - power units No. 5 and No. 6, in 2020-2021 - power units No. 9 and No. 10. The capacity of these stations will grow from 1800 to 1950 MW. The cost of the contract on a turnkey basis is US$177.1 million.
In addition, the upgraded and reconstructed power units will be equipped not only with heat-mechanical and electrical equipment, but also with an automated process control system.
In order to ensure more efficient operation of automated process control systems in power units and extending their service life, a transition to a high-tech, software complex is envisaged as part of the modernization.
The total cost of the project is US$187.3 million. Vnesheconombank (Russia) will provide a loan of US$132 million. The rest of the project will be funded by the Uzbek side.
Syrdarya TPP was commissioned in 1981 with an installed capacity of 3,200 MW. The annual output of electricity to the united energy system of Uzbekistan is 13 billion kWh, or 32% of the total electricity produced in Uzbekistan.
