Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 11 to 14 February 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoev visited Mississippi (USA) on a working visit.
The delegation included representatives of the Ministries of Innovation Development, Investments and Foreign Trade, Agriculture, as well as the Parrandasanoat and Uztextileprom associations, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
As part of their stay in Mississippi, the Uzbek delegation held fruitful meetings with representatives of official and business circles, signed a number of documents aimed at establishing cooperation in specific, practically important areas.
During the talks with the head of Mississippi Development Administration Glen McCullough, an exchange of views was held on the prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Mississippi in the implementation of joint projects in agriculture, agro-industrial complex, petrochemistry and mechanical engineering. The American side expressed its readiness to promote development of direct business contacts between small businesses in Uzbekistan and the state of Mississippi.
An agreement was reached to organize in April a visit to Uzbekistan of state business representatives as part of a delegation headed by Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant.
Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Mississippi Development Authority and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. The document aims to deepen direct contacts between business communities, as well as mutual trade relations. The parties will actively promote the participation of business representatives of the two countries in relevant events and programs, promote the mutual exchange of information about trade fairs held, business forums and exhibitions.
At the meeting of the delegation of Uzbekistan with the Commissioner for Agriculture and Trade of the State of Mississippi Andy Gibson, a constructive exchange of views on the prospects for bilateral cooperation took place and concrete practical steps for the development of partnership relations in the agrarian sphere were outlined.
"We are deeply satisfied with the pace of progress of reforms in Uzbekistan, which are extremely important for economic development and employment," the head of the agricultural department of the state said.
Following the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Saidkamol Khojaev and Commissioner for Agriculture and Trade of the State of Mississippi Andy Gibson signed a cooperation agreement.
The document envisages expansion of cooperation in the field of agriculture in such areas as technological development, the introduction of know-how, quality standards and control, advanced training of agricultural personnel, as well as the creation of favorable conditions for mutual trade. As noted, the agreement will lay the foundation for intensifying interaction in specific areas.
The delegation of Uzbekistan held successful negotiations with the president of the Innovate Mississippi Innovation Association Tony Jeff. The parties discussed issues of establishing bilateral cooperation between research communities in the field of innovation, science and technology.
Innovate Mississippi is an organization that provides innovative and technological development for the Mississippi economy. The association specializes in helping inventors and entrepreneurs strengthen the state’s innovative economy, providing support for investment promotion and business development.
An agreement was reached on cooperation between the Ministry of Innovation Development of Uzbekistan and Innovate Mississippi with the Center for Advanced Technologies in such areas as support for start-up projects, the organization of training courses and trainings, as well as the implementation of innovative projects.
The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation, which provides for the expansion of interaction between the research institutions of the parties in the fields of scientific research and innovative research.
In general, according to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, the negotiations held in the state of Mississippi by the Uzbek delegation allowed us to lay a solid foundation for the further development of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
