8.2 kg of Narcotics Smuggled from Neighboring Countries Seized in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As a result of an operation carried out by the State Security Service in Kashkadarya Region in cooperation with internal affairs authorities, a resident of Uzun District in Surkhandarya Region, born in 1995, was detained. He was attempting to hide 896 grams of the narcotic substance hashish in Denov District.
The substance had been smuggled into the country from the Republic of Tajikistan for the purpose of subsequent sale. During the continuation of the operation, an additional 2 kilograms and 260 grams of opium were discovered and formally documented at his residence.
In another operation conducted by the State Security Service Directorate in Namangan Region, in cooperation with customs and law enforcement agencies, a vehicle was stopped in the city of Namangan. The vehicle was driven by a previously convicted citizen born in 1987. Upon inspection, 2 kilograms and 990 grams of hashish were found inside the car. A preliminary investigation revealed that the narcotics had been brought into the Yangikurgan District by a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic using bypass routes and were intended for sale in Namangan.
In Ferghana Region, two individuals were detained — one from the city of Margilan, born in 1973, and the other from Tashlak District, born in 1971 — as they attempted to sell 487 grams of hashish smuggled from Tajikistan for a sum of US$5,000.
A search of the residence of the individual from Tashlak District resulted in the seizure of an additional 599 grams of hashish, which were documented in accordance with legal procedure. It is worth noting that both individuals had been repeatedly prosecuted in the past but had clearly failed to draw any meaningful conclusions from their previous criminal convictions.
A similar offense was recorded in Samarkand Region. In Urgut District, a local resident born in 1983 — who had previously been convicted multiple times for drug-related offenses — was apprehended along with his accomplice, a citizen born in 1991. They were caught red-handed attempting to sell 982 grams of opium, smuggled into Uzbekistan from the Republic of Tajikistan, for US$8,000.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated in all of the aforementioned cases, and the individuals involved have been placed in pre-trial detention.
