Border trade zone between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to launch by late 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to establish the Shavat–Dashoguz border trade zone, scheduled to be launched by the end of 2025, Turkmenistan Habarlar Portaly reported.
The agreement was reached during talks between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan. The meeting took place at the Congress Center of the Avaza National Tourist Zone.
Since the beginning of 2025, trade turnover between the two countries has reached around US$700 million. Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, rooted in friendship and strategic partnership.
A free trade regime has been in effect between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan since February 2025, with trade houses operating in both capitals. Joint projects are also actively developing in industry, energy, transport, agriculture, and water management.
Special attention was given to the work of intergovernmental commissions and the Business Council, as well as preparations for the upcoming Seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders.
