BYD: Uzbekistan Emerging as a Hub for Chinese Auto Investors
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Speaking at the 4th Tashkent International Investment Forum, Ivan Cao, Managing Director of BYD Central Asia, outlined the company’s plans for the Uzbek market and their significance for the development of the local automotive industry.
Cao noted that BYD has been operating successfully in Uzbekistan for nearly four years and sees the country as strategically important for its future growth.
“We began with vehicle sales, then moved on to local assembly, and as of June 2024, we launched full-scale production. In Jizzakh, with the support of the Presidents of Uzbekistan and China, we opened a factory that has already produced more than 10,000 electric vehicles. This confirms both strong demand and the immense potential of the market,” he stated.
According to him, BYD is actively developing the electric vehicle segment in Uzbekistan and plans to introduce new models in 2025. In particular, the company aims to bring its premium brand Denza—created in partnership with Mercedes-Benz—to the local market. “We are in negotiations and hope to launch the Denza brand in Uzbekistan by the end of the year. Denza represents the pinnacle of modern technology and design,” Cao added.
He also emphasized that BYD’s growing presence in the region is encouraging other Chinese automakers to follow. “Uzbekistan is becoming an attractive platform for Chinese investors. Other brands are coming after us, exploring opportunities to localize production or start sales. This creates a domino effect that strengthens the country’s industrial and investment potential,” he said.
BYD sees Uzbekistan not only as a sales destination but as a strategic base for sustainable industrial development. “We want Uzbekistan to become a more attractive hub for automotive industry growth,” Cao concluded.
