Consumers refunded almost 20 billion soums overcharged by natural monopolies
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the first half of 2025, consumers were refunded funds excessively charged by natural monopoly entities, amounting to a total of about 20 billion soums, according to the Competition Development Committee.
In particular, recalculations in the electricity sector amounted to about 5.5 billion soums, in natural gas — about 7.5 billion soums, in water supply — about 2.5 billion soums, and in heat supply — more than 4.5 billion soums.
Refunds were issued to more than 48,000 individuals and over 100 legal entities. For example, following an appeal from the Samarkand Regional Directorate’s Center for Professional Training of the Unemployed, “Samarkand Water Supply” JSC recalculated 263 million soums of unjustified charges for drinking water.
In response to appeals received by the Competition Committee of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the Beruniy District branch of JSC “Regional Electric Networks” (“Energosbyt”) recalculated over 86 million soums unjustly charged to the “Khodji Karimov” farm. “Karakalpak Water Supply” JSC recalculated more than 2 billion soums overcharged to over 48,000 consumers, based on a decision by the Microdistrict Economic Court of Nukus.
Following an appeal from the “Heat Source” State Unitary Enterprise of the Navoi Regional Directorate, the Navoi branch of “Hududgaz” recalculated almost 2.5 billion soums for more than 1.6 million cubic meters of unjustly charged natural gas, in accordance with a decision by the Karmana Interdistrict Economic Court.
The Competition Committee continues systematic inspections and monitoring of this sector across all regions of the Republic.
