Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The American online education platform Coursera, Inc. has officially registered in Uzbekistan as a value-added tax (VAT) payer.

According to information published on the website of the Tax Committee, the company completed its registration on 2 May, becoming the 69th foreign legal entity to be added to the relevant register.

Australian-based Canva, a company specializing in graphic design and presentation tools, has also obtained taxpayer status in the country. Since the beginning of the year, 11 new foreign digital companies have joined the list of registered taxpayers in Uzbekistan, including major players such as Alibaba Cloud, eBay, OpenAI, and Bloomberg.

According to data from the first quarter of 2025, tax revenues from foreign IT giants reached 36.2 billion soums, a 50% increase compared to the same period last year.

The top taxpayers were Apple, Meta, and Google, along with OpenAI and TikTok—despite restrictions on the latter in Uzbekistan—all ranking among the top five contributors.
