Court in Tashkent Region Sentences Uzbek Citizen to Six Years for Mercenarism
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Bekabad District Criminal Court of Tashkent Region has sentenced an Uzbek citizen to six years in prison under the charge of “mercenarism” for participating in a special military operation.
According to the case materials, the man went to Russia in 2024 for work and was employed in construction until February 2025. In February, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The court found him guilty under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and imposed a sentence of six years’ imprisonment.
Under Uzbek law, mercenarism is punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to ten years.
