Criminal Case Initiated Against Tax Inspector in Bukhara
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A criminal case has been opened against a chief inspector of the Bukhara City State Tax Inspectorate following allegations of extortion.
Earlier, the Bukhara City Enforcement Bureau (BPI) had initiated enforcement proceedings against the head of a limited liability company (LLC) based in the city, acting on a decision by the city’s tax inspectorate. The case stemmed from the company’s failure to submit turnover tax and income tax reports on time for November–December 2024 and January–February 2025.
Subsequently, the Bukhara City Criminal Court annulled the penalty imposed on the LLC. However, despite this ruling, the chief tax inspector demanded $400 from the company’s director, allegedly in exchange for lifting the seizure of the company’s assets.
During a joint operation carried out by the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office, the inspector was caught red-handed while receiving the requested sum.
Investigators have since opened a criminal case against him, and investigative procedures are currently underway.
