Inspector Prevents Teenage Girl’s Suicide Attempt in Yakkasaray District

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the Yakkasaray district of Tashkent, a police inspector successfully prevented the suicide of a 15-year-old girl who attempted to jump from the roof of a nine-story building. The incident was reported on 16 July by the press service of the Tashkent City Department of Internal Affairs (GUVD).

At around 6:40 a.m., an emergency alert was received via a panic button installed in the local mahalla. An operational team, led by district police chief Mukhtor Akhmedov, was immediately dispatched to the scene.

According to Akhmedov, Inspector Sanjar Bekmurodov climbed to the rooftop while he coordinated efforts from the ground. Bekmurodov approached the girl through the balcony of a nearby apartment, eventually closing the distance to within a few meters.

The teenager was in severe emotional distress and exhibited aggressive behavior. The inspector engaged her in conversation for 30 minutes, attempting to gain her trust and dissuade her from taking a fatal step. At a critical moment, he managed to position himself close enough to ensure her safety.

A second officer arrived and, using access from the adjacent building, passed a belt to Bekmurodov, who used it to secure the girl and prevent her from falling. He held her in that position for about 15 minutes, despite her repeated attempts to break free.

Emergency responders from the Department for Emergency Situations (UChS) later arrived and lowered a rope onto the rooftop. With its help, the girl was finally lifted off the parapet and brought to safety. She was then handed over to her parents.

The Tashkent police department urged parents to pay close attention to their children’s emotional well-being and emphasized the importance of maintaining trust and open communication within the family.
