Large-Scale Drug Trafficking Stopped in Samarkand Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in the Samarkand region have intercepted a major illegal drug operation, the State Security Service (SSS) reported.

During a series of operational-search activities, officers from the regional SSS, together with the regional Department of Internal Affairs, identified and halted illegal activities. In the yard of a resident of Urgut, born in 1992, 960 grams of opium brought from Tajikistan were found and seized under a tree.

In another joint inspection involving the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Service, the house of a resident of Pastdargom, born in 1971, was searched. In an outbuilding, 25 kilograms and 520 grams of marijuana were confiscated.

Criminal cases have been opened against both suspects under Articles 25 and 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, their analogues, or psychotropic substances). Both individuals have been placed in custody. Investigations are ongoing.
