Mirziyoyev and Modi Discuss US$2 Billion Projects and 60% Growth in Trade Turnover
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 12 August, a telephone conversation took place between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi.
At the beginning of the conversation, Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated his counterpart and the people of India on the upcoming national holiday — Independence Day — wishing the country peace, prosperity, and well-being.
The parties discussed pressing issues related to strengthening strategic partnership and multifaceted cooperation. It was noted that practical interaction is developing dynamically: since the beginning of the year, trade turnover has increased by 60%, about 40 new joint ventures and cooperative projects have been launched, and the portfolio of promising initiatives with leading Indian companies has reached US$2 billion. Four branches of Indian universities are successfully operating in Uzbekistan.
Special attention was given to the implementation of projects in pharmaceuticals, chemical industry, digital economy, energy, extractive sector, agriculture, construction, tourism, and other fields. Measures to develop transport and transit routes within the framework of the North-South corridor were also discussed.
The leaders emphasized the importance of the upcoming meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Tashkent and proposed to hold mutual Days of Culture and Cinema and expand interregional exchanges.
In conclusion, the parties exchanged views on the regional agenda and agreed on the schedule of future high-level events.
