Mirziyoyev: The Olympic Village Has Laid the Foundation for Youth Health and Future Victories

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Olympic Village in Tashkent was conceived as a scientific, practical, and educational training center for national sports. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev first announced this vision on 18 November 2023, while reviewing the progress of its construction.

According to the Head of State, this complex should unite not only the training process but also sports education, science, and medicine. “In other words, the Olympic Village will become a scientific, practical, and educational training center for the sports of our country,” the President emphasized.

In line with this concept, the Ministry of Sports, the Anti-Doping Agency, the State Sports Academy, the Research Institute of Physical Culture, and the Center for the Development of Sports Disciplines have all been located here.

During his recent visit, the President was briefed on plans for the effective use of the Olympic Village’s infrastructure, as well as the activities of the sports organizations based within it.

The complex will primarily host international competitions. After their conclusion, the facilities will continue to serve as venues for training camps of national teams, while sports federations will establish cooperation with schools. In addition, the complex’s facilities will be open to the general public.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the heads of federations and sports organizations. “First of all, I congratulate our athletes and federations on the creation of such a complex. We have laid a solid foundation for the health of the younger generation and for future victories. But this is only the beginning. What is much more important is the development of mass sports and the training of professional athletes.

We will support sports both in terms of health and in achieving high results. Plans are underway to build similar Olympic Villages in the regions. The main goal is the health and all-round development of our youth,” the President noted.

It should be recalled that at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, Uzbek athletes performed successfully, finishing 13th in the overall team ranking. Today, the country faces the task of further developing the Olympic movement and achieving even greater success at future international competitions.

On July 8 of this year, the President signed a decree on a program for preparing athletes for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. To ensure systematic work, 14 regional branches of the National Olympic Committee have been established. The Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, as well as regional and capital hokims, have been appointed as special representatives of the President for the development of the Olympic movement. Each region has also been assigned responsible officials from the Ministry of Sports and the NOC.

The program’s main goal is to build a sustainable system of athlete training and create conditions for consistently high results, not just for one Olympic cycle, but for many years ahead.

To identify and professionally train talented athletes from the grassroots level, a three-stage competition system called “Olympic Peaks of New Uzbekistan” has been introduced. Its final stage will be held annually in the Olympic Village under the name “Presidential Olympics.” Winners and prizewinners will be directed to specialized Olympic centers for further training.

The Republican Olympic and Paralympic centers will focus on forming the reserve for national teams. To support their training camps, they are being granted the use of Olympic Village facilities free of charge.

At the same time, the work of private sports clubs will be improved, ensuring their participation in official competitions. Athletes who achieve strong results will have the opportunity to join the national teams.

The President paid special attention to the development of mass sports. “Courage and a spirit of competition run in the blood of our people. Our people love sports, and this love must be nurtured. Sports should become even more widespread in mahallas. For this, all the necessary conditions exist locally, and new facilities continue to be built. Mass participation will inevitably lead to results,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed.

In addition, instructions were given on the digitalization of the sports sector, improving the efficiency of federations, and expanding the range of sports in which Uzbekistan is capable of achieving significant success.
