Uzbekistan, AIIB discuss priority aspects of cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 20 January, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan with representatives of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), headed by Konstantin Limitovsky, Vice President for Investment Operations.
The AIIB informed about the main goals, stressing that at present Uzbekistan is a priority for them to cooperate in projects to improve energy efficiency, construction, both cross-border power lines and within the country, renewable energy and hydropower.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy briefly talked about the ongoing reforms in the country in the energy and oil and gas sectors, as well as the adopted law “On Public-Private Partnerships” (PPP) and the opportunities available for cooperation in the field of energy and renewable energy. So, in 2020, several tenders are planned, namely with ADB and IFC for the construction of solar power plants and cooperation with the EBRD to prepare for a tender for the construction of wind farms in Karakalpakstan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the priority sides of cooperation, in particular, 6 promising areas in the field of hydropower, renewable energy, waste disposal and generation of electricity and heat, the construction of power lines, new energy efficiency projects.
Formation of a single data center for monitoring the operation of the energy and oil and gas systems were highlighted.
