Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 May, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga.
Topical issues of further development of the Uzbek-Japanese relations of strategic partnership and multifaceted cooperation were discussed.
The high level of practical interaction, open and fruitful dialogue achieved following the high-level visit to Japan in December 2019 was noted with satisfaction.
The head of our state sincerely thanked the Prime Minister and the Government of Japan for the active support of the comprehensive reform program implemented in the country for the construction of a new Uzbekistan, as well as for the assistance provided in the fight against coronavirus and overcoming the economic consequences of the pandemic.
In turn, the Prime Minister of Japan stressed his readiness to expand financial and technical assistance to Uzbekistan in order to further advance reforms, develop modern industrial and social infrastructure.
The Japanese side expressed special gratitude for the constant support provided by Tashkent in the issues of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the return of kidnapped Japanese citizens.
The prospects for the development of bilateral trade, economic, investment and financial cooperation were considered.
The President of Uzbekistan highly appreciated the productive partnership with the JICA, leading companies and banking and financial institutions of Japan. Last year, despite the global crisis and quarantine restrictions, with the participation of Japanese investors and specialists, such priority projects as the construction of the Turakurgan TPP, the second phase of the Navoi TPP expansion, the launch of high-tech ammonia and urea production at the Navoiazot enterprise were implemented.
The importance of creating favorable conditions for increasing the volume of mutual trade and investment was especially noted.
The leaders welcomed the initiative to introduce effective instruments for financial support of joint business projects.
They also exchanged views on the international agenda, issues of ensuring regional security and stability. They expressed their readiness to expand practical interaction in the format "Central Asia plus Japan".
The Japanese side announced its support and participation in an international conference on the interconnectedness of Central and South Asia, which will be held in July this year in Tashkent.
At the end of the conversation, the President of Uzbekistan wished successful holding of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, and also invited Prime Minister Yosehide Sugu to visit our country.
The telephone conversation between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Japan took place in a traditionally open, friendly and business atmosphere.
