SES comments on the need to undergo rapid testing for COVID-19

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health (SES) commented on the need to undergo rapid testing for COVID-19 at the border.
From 15 January, all arriving in Uzbekistan must not only have a certificate of a negative PCR test passed no more than 48 hours before, but must also undergo express testing for COVID-19.
The corresponding decision was made by the Special Republican Commission to Combat Coronavirus. The cost of the test is US$5.
Videos from the Tashkent airport have circulated on social networks, showing huge queues and disputes between passengers and airport employees. Those who arrived complain about the insufficient number of places for taking tests and receiving payment.
The service noted that over the past 10 days, the number of daily cases of coronavirus detected in Uzbekistan has increased 8 times. To reduce the risk of the spread of infection, it was decided to introduce express testing at international airports, railway stations and automobile checkpoints at the border.
The report notes that on the first day after the introduction of a new requirement, out of 3,801 passengers who arrived in Tashkent, 67 were diagnosed with coronavirus. At the same time, they provided certificates of a negative PCR test result.
On this day, 15,041 people arrived in Uzbekistan through all border checkpoints. Coronavirus was confirmed in 151 of them. This is 1% of all arrivals.
SES emphasizes that the virus is also detected in people who have passed a PCR test. This suggests that the disease becomes "smarter", acquiring a latent form. In this situation, passing a rapid antigen test is the right decision, the service notes.
If the infection is confirmed, depending on the state of health, the arrivals are sent for home treatment or to the hospital. For those who must receive treatment at home, four types of medicines are provided free of charge.
The SES stated that this temporary measure will serve to promptly identify citizens with coronavirus infection, treat them and prevent the spread of infection in the country.
