President of Uzbekistan offers condolences on the passing of Pope Francis

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed his condolences following the passing of Pope Francis, sending a message to the Camerlengo of the Roman Catholic Church, Cardinal Kevin Farrell.

In his message, the head of state highlighted the significant contribution of His Holiness to strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and the Vatican, fostering interfaith dialogue, supporting the underprivileged, and promoting the values of compassion and kindness.

President Mirziyoyev conveyed his heartfelt sympathies and support to the people of the Vatican and Catholics around the world.

According to the official announcement, Pope Francis passed away at 7:35 a.m., as confirmed by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life.

The pontiff was 88 years old. Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, he ascended to the Holy See on 13 March 2013 following the resignation of Benedict XVI, becoming the first Pope from Latin America and the first from the New World to hold the office.
