Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the events of the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, visited the Imaret historical and architectural complex located in the city of Aghdam.

The heads of the delegations from other ECO member states also joined the leaders in touring the site. Aghdam, situated in the western part of Azerbaijan in the Karabakh region, has been undergoing an active phase of reconstruction in recent years: new schools, kindergartens, residential and administrative buildings are being constructed, and the city’s infrastructure is being modernized.

The Imaret complex comprises the palace and mausoleum of Panah Ali Khan, the founder of the Karabakh Khanate. Following extensive restoration and archaeological work, the site was reopened in 2024. It now also features a Park of Karabakh Horses and an interactive museum dedicated to the region’s history and culture.

Guests were treated to a vibrant “Zafar” (“Victory”) program, which included performances featuring Karabakh horses, symbolizing the rich cultural and historical heritage of Karabakh. The leaders were introduced to the achievements in reconstruction and the efforts made to preserve the area’s cultural legacy.
