Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 August, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan led by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The distinguished guest conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan the sincere greetings and best wishes of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif.

During the talks, the parties discussed further strengthening of Uzbek-Pakistani relations, multifaceted cooperation, and strategic partnership in the context of implementing agreements reached during the Pakistani Prime Minister’s visit to Tashkent in February of this year.

The active development of mutual contacts and exchanges at various levels was noted with satisfaction. Since the beginning of the year, trade turnover between the two countries has increased by 23%, while freight transport volumes have grown by 50%. Trade houses have been opened in Karachi and Lahore, and the frequency of direct flights has been increased.

Special attention was paid to practical cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres, as well as joint efforts to counter modern security challenges and threats.

The parties particularly emphasized the urgent need for practical implementation of the provisions of the trilateral agreement on the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project.
