Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 9–10 June 2025, the 7th BRICS Youth Energy Summit was held in the capital of Brazil, Brasília. The summit has become a key annual event within the expanded BRICS youth energy partnership, which now unites delegations from ten participating countries.
Included in the official energy cooperation agenda under Brazil’s 2025 BRICS Chairmanship, the summit served as a strategic platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the development of joint initiatives.
The event brought together over 100 participants, including youth delegations from Brazil, Russia, China, India, Egypt, Indonesia, and other Global South nations, as well as representatives of relevant ministries, research institutions, and leading energy companies. The summit was co-organized with the traditional support of Rosatom, a global leader in youth education in nuclear energy.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, addressing the participants, emphasized the importance of collaboration in research, technology development, practical experience exchange, and launching innovative solutions on the global market. He highlighted that Rosatom is actively involved in regulatory development, production localization, and talent cultivation — citing the Obninsk Tech project, an international nuclear education hub uniting young professionals worldwide.
A key highlight of the first day was the presentation of the draft BRICS Youth Energy Outlook, prepared by over 50 young researchers. The document addresses critical global energy challenges, including decarbonization, sustainable fuels, energy access, and securing vital mineral resources.
The session launching the report featured remarks from high-level representatives of the energy community and government institutions, including:
Leandro Albuquerque, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil,
André Pepitone da Nóbrega, CFO of Itaipu Binacional,
Dr. Kartik Agrawal, Deputy Secretary of India’s Ministry of Energy,
Representatives from Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security, National Secretariat for Youth, and climate movements.
Alexander Kormishin, Head of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency, highlighted the importance of establishing a sustainable youth expert network within the global energy architecture. He noted that the insights and policy recommendations developed by young professionals are already being integrated into national energy strategies across the BRICS countries.
The final version of the BRICS Youth Energy Outlook will be officially presented in November 2025 in Belém, during the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30). The report is being developed with support from the BRICS Nuclear Platform, a voluntary international mechanism uniting energy companies, expert communities, and nonprofit organizations working in the field of sustainable nuclear technologies.
The 2025 summit also marked the 10th anniversary of BRICS youth energy cooperation, underscoring the growing importance of youth-led initiatives in shaping sustainable energy policy. The summit reaffirmed its status as an established institutional platform for nurturing future leaders in the global energy sector. Outcomes and resolutions from the summit are reflected in BRICS communiqués, reviewed at the ministerial level, and integrated into strategic energy cooperation plans.
The summit was co-organized by Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, the National Secretariat for Youth under the President of Brazil, the BRICS Youth Energy Agency, and Rosatom, which continues to play a leading role in promoting international educational collaboration, human capital development, and youth-driven sustainable energy initiatives.
