Report Presented to the President of Uzbekistan on Measures to Ensure the Stability of Tashkent’s Power System

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A report was presented to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, outlining measures aimed at ensuring the stability of the power system in the city of Tashkent.

The capital continues to experience population growth alongside active development in the construction sector. Over the past year, approximately 12,000 new facilities have been commissioned, including commercial and service complexes. At the same time, the living standards of residents are improving, leading to increased usage of household appliances.

All these factors contribute to the rising electricity consumption. In response to this trend, 2.8 trillion soms have been invested over the past two years in the development of Tashkent’s electricity supply system. As part of these efforts, 36 substations and 665 transformers have been modernized, and over two thousand kilometers of new power lines have been laid.

However, a number of unresolved issues remain. Currently, 46 substations and 207 transformers are operating under overload conditions. Since the beginning of the year, the number of electricity consumers in the capital has increased by 40,000, with consumption levels rising by 6 percent.

An additional challenge has been the abnormally prolonged heatwave: whereas previously extreme summer temperatures lasted no more than a week, this year they persisted for 20 days. As a result, total electricity consumption in July exceeded 900 million kilowatt-hours.

These factors necessitate the continuation of systematic modernization of the energy infrastructure. The Minister of Energy presented detailed plans for network upgrades in each district and neighborhood of the capital during the briefing.

The first phase, planned for this year, includes the renovation of 374 kilometers of power lines, 11 substations, and 62 transformers. In 2026, the work will extend to an additional 788 kilometers of networks, 35 substations, and 145 transformers, including repairs and installation of new equipment across various neighborhoods.

The President emphasized the approaching autumn-winter period and firmly instructed that all current works be completed by November 1.

Officials also reported on a set of measures aimed at ensuring stable energy supply during the cold season.

In recent years, electricity generation capacity has significantly increased across the country’s regions. Simultaneously, industrial enterprises are being transitioned to alternative energy sources. Specifically, by 2027, it is planned to install solar power plants with a total capacity of 752 megawatts, along with energy storage facilities totaling 812 megawatts at large enterprises and tourist sites.

The President was also updated on the progress of the small nuclear power plant construction project. Every stage of the construction — from design to commissioning — will be conducted under strict supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), ensuring adherence to advanced safety standards.

The head of state instructed that the commissioning of facilities be carried out on schedule with the required quality level and that stable energy capacities be established. The Cabinet of Ministers was tasked with regularly reviewing issues related to improving energy efficiency, at least once a week.
