Shavkat Mirziyoyev Reviews Progress of the “New Tashkent” Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On Wednesday, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the presentation of projects being implemented within “New Tashkent” — a large-scale urban development initiative launched in 2023.

The first buildings have already been constructed, and for further expansion, 19.7 thousand hectares of land have been allocated in Yukorichirchik and Urtachirchik districts. The city’s master plan was prepared by the UK-based company Cross Works.

At the first stage, construction covers 6 thousand hectares, designed to provide modern living conditions for 600,000 residents. In the long term, New Tashkent is projected to accommodate up to 2 million people. Given the project’s scale, special attention is being paid to the quality and reliability of infrastructure: active construction of underground utility networks, heating supply systems, water pipelines, electricity grids, and telecommunications is underway. At the same time, tunnels and underground parking facilities are being built to ease traffic congestion.

Environmental sustainability is a key priority. The city will use clean transport, integrate metro and electric bus systems, and create safe, convenient routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

The administrative zone is planned to include over 60 buildings for government institutions. Already, more than ten ministries and agencies have begun operations in temporary facilities on the territory of the new city.

The President was presented with near-term development plans. The project has attracted significant interest from both domestic and foreign investors: auctions have resulted in agreements worth USD 554 million across 13 commercial lots. Hotels, restaurants, and modern buildings with unique architecture will be built, transforming New Tashkent into not only a comfortable place to live but also an attractive tourist hub.

Implementation of the project is expected to provide employment for 160,000 people, with hundreds of thousands of permanent jobs to follow, based on innovative technologies. Plans also include the development of educational and medical clusters, IT infrastructure, and technology parks.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave further instructions on attracting investment and creating modern recreational areas and service facilities to ensure high-quality living standards for city residents.
