Social Taxi Program for Schoolchildren with Disabilities Expanded to 11 More Cities in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting from September 2025, the social taxi program for schoolchildren with disabilities has been rolled out in 11 additional cities across the country. The initiative, which began in the spring in Tashkent, Samarkand and Andijan, now also covers Bukhara, Karshi, Ferghana, Urgench, Kokand, Jizzakh, Namangan, Navoi, Nukus, Gulistan and Khiva.
The program is being implemented by the National Agency for Social Protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with Yandex Uzbekistan. It provides free and safe transportation for schoolchildren with disabilities from home to school and back.
The government reimburses transportation costs of up to 1.2 basic calculation units per month (494,400 soums) for each child. Depending on the eligibility criteria, the reimbursement may cover 60% or 100% of the trip cost.
“The launch of the social taxi service in new regions is an important outcome of cooperation between the state and the private sector. This initiative is not only about transportation, but also about creating conditions for children with disabilities to fully participate in society,” the National Agency for Social Protection noted.
Trips can be booked through the Yandex Go app by selecting special options such as “I will have a wheelchair” or “Help me find the car.” Drivers receive a notification and are prepared to provide assistance.
Yandex Go does not earn revenue from these orders: all government reimbursements are transferred directly to drivers, and no service fee is charged.
With this expansion, the program now operates in 14 cities across Uzbekistan, ensuring access to education for schoolchildren with disabilities while providing additional support for their families.
