Tashkent hosts 105th meeting of the CIS Economic Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 29 April 2025, Tashkent hosted the 105th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The event opened with a welcoming address from Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting was chaired by Hakim Kholikzoda, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan and current head of the CIS Economic Council.

The meeting brought together high-level representatives from CIS member states, including Yakub Ayubov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan; Mher Grigoryan, Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia; Yuri Shuleyko, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus; Daniyar Amangeldiev, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan; and Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

Also in attendance were Beketzhan Zhumakhanov, Kazakhstan’s plenipotentiary representative to the CIS Economic Affairs Commission; Shadurdy Meredov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan; and Sergey Lebedev, Secretary-General of the CIS.

The agenda focused on expanding economic cooperation among CIS member states. A key outcome was the approval of a comprehensive set of measures to stimulate mutual investment within the CIS through 2030 — a plan initiated by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Umid Abidkhodjaev, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, delivered a detailed presentation on the initiative.

Participants also endorsed a draft concept for harmonizing national air traffic management systems across CIS countries. The proposal, presented by Oleg Storchevoy, Chair of the Interstate Aviation Committee, aims to enhance the efficient use of airspace, ensure transparent borders, and implement unified service standards.

Additional agenda items included draft concepts in public health, light industry, and heavy engineering — all intended to strengthen cooperation, advance scientific capabilities, and promote the use of innovative technologies. Discussions also covered antitrust regulation in socially significant markets, implementation of electronic tax information exchange, and amendments to the CIS interregional and cross-border cooperation roadmap through 2030.

All proposed documents will be submitted for review by the CIS Council of Heads of Government and the Council of Heads of State.
