Tashkent Marks the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 26 August, the Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace hosted a solemn ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

The event was organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Uzbekistan and the Cinematography Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The ceremony gathered over 300 guests, including the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the PRC to Uzbekistan Yu Jun, Director of the Cinematography Agency Shokhrukh Rizaev, Chairman of the Union of Veterans and War Invalids of Uzbekistan Tursun Muradov, representatives of academic and cultural circles, the diplomatic corps, the Chinese diaspora, as well as students and young people.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Yu Jun emphasized that China was the main theater of war in the Far East during the Second World War and made a significant contribution to the common victory. He recalled that soldiers of the Red Army from Uzbekistan fought shoulder to shoulder with Chinese troops on the Far Eastern front, and that this contribution will forever remain in the memory of the Chinese people.

The ambassador stressed the importance of remembering the lessons of the Second World War and safeguarding peace. He noted that events of this kind serve to preserve historical memory, honor the sacrifices of the fallen, and strengthen the spirit of international cooperation. He also underlined that the international system with the United Nations at its core is a major achievement of victory in the Second World War and the foundation of the modern world order, while the return of Taiwan to China was an integral outcome of the war.

According to him, China is ready to work together with all countries to uphold justice, reinforce solidarity, and advance progress.

Participants noted that both China and Uzbekistan had borne immense sacrifices and made a significant contribution to the common victory. They emphasized the importance of preserving historical truth and defending the results of the war through concrete actions.

As part of the program, the films The Sinking of Lisbon Maru and My Country, My Parents were screened, and an exhibition of rare historical photographs was held, which drew great public interest.

A particularly moving moment came when Ambassador Yu Jun presented a commemorative medal, “In Honor of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression,” to the relatives of Uzbek veteran Baymurzaev, who had fought side by side with Chinese soldiers.
