Tashkent TPP Fully Switches from Fuel Oil to Natural Gas
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent Thermal Power Plant has completely stopped using fuel oil: electricity and heat generation are now carried out exclusively on modern equipment operating on natural gas.
At the initiative of the President, new gas turbine units with a total capacity of 64 MW were commissioned at the plant in 2024. These units enable the production of 515 million kWh of electricity and 630 Gcal of heat, meeting the needs of the capital and its economy.
Special attention is given to environmental safety and improving Tashkent’s air quality. The plant’s three modern gas turbine units are equipped with eco-monitoring stations for continuous centralized tracking and analysis of atmospheric emissions.
As part of international cooperation with the Turkish company Iltekno, state-of-the-art cogeneration centers have been built in the Chilanzar, Olmazor, and Sergeli districts. These stations feature next-generation technologies that allow for the production of electricity and heat even at low natural gas pressure, increasing efficiency and environmental safety.
Similar equipment will be installed in seven other districts of the capital: Mirzo Ulugbek, Yunusabad, Shaykhontohur, Uchtepa, Mirobod, Yashnabad, and Yangihayot.
In addition to its production function, the plant also contributes to improving the city’s ecology and aesthetics.
Within the framework of the national Green Space program, 5,000 ornamental trees were planted on the station’s grounds in 2025.
