University Professors in Tashkent and Ferghana Detained for Admissions Fraud

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As a result of joint operations carried out by the Tashkent City Department of the State Security Service and the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office, a lecturer from the Tashkent State University of Economics was detained.

He was caught accepting US$4,000 from a Tashkent resident in exchange for allegedly assisting with university admission through his supposed influential connections. The lecturer was apprehended red-handed during the transfer of the money, and physical evidence was found on him at the scene.

A similar incident was uncovered in Ferghana Region. A faculty member from Ferghana State University, abusing his official position and acting in coordination with senior colleagues, fabricated a false certificate claiming that a Ferghana resident held a sports title in boxing.

Based on this forged document, the lecturer promised to secure the applicant’s admission to the university’s military education faculty, for which he received US$3,800. He, too, was detained by officers of the State Security Service and law enforcement agencies, with material evidence in hand.

Criminal cases have been initiated against both individuals, and investigative actions are currently underway.
