Uzbekistan Advances Legislative Reforms on Path to WTO Accession

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 13 June 2025, the 10th meeting of the Working Party on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Uzbek delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev and included representatives from the Ministry of Justice, along with delegates from more than 30 WTO member states.

During the discussions, Deputy Minister of Justice Akbarjon Karimov delivered a report on the legislative reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan in accordance with the requirements and norms of WTO agreements.

According to the Ministry of Justice, over the past two years, Uzbekistan has aligned more than 130 legal and regulatory acts with WTO standards. Key reforms include the revision of the Customs Code, the elimination of export subsidies, and the removal of certain restrictions. Additionally, the country has acceded to key international agreements in the field of intellectual property protection.

WTO member states such as the European Union, China, Russia, and Kazakhstan positively assessed Uzbekistan’s legal reform efforts.

These developments clearly reflect Uzbekistan’s commitment to deepening its integration into the global economy and strengthening its role in the international trade system.
