Uzbekistan Aims to Boost Uranium Production to 7,200 Tons by 2030
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is strengthening its position in the global uranium market and plans to significantly increase production volumes of this strategic resource in the coming years, the UzAtom Agency reported.
Today, the country ranks among the global leaders in the uranium industry: it holds the second-largest reserves among CIS countries, the tenth-largest worldwide, and is among the world’s top five producers of uranium.
The bulk of production is carried out using the modern and environmentally safe method of in-situ leaching. Currently, 23 uranium deposits are being developed in Uzbekistan, while active geological exploration is underway at another 10 promising sites.
According to UzAtom, uranium mining and processing in the country are expected to reach 4,200 tons in 2025. By 2030, this figure is projected to nearly double to 7,200 tons.
“Uranium, as a strategic raw material for nuclear energy, remains a key element of the global energy balance. Uzbekistan is making a significant contribution to the development of low-carbon energy for the future, strengthening its position as a reliable partner in the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” the agency emphasized.
