Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 13 June 2025, Uzbekistan Airways and Azerbaijan’s national carrier Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) signed a code-share agreement at the Uzbekistan Airways headquarters in Tashkent. This partnership opens new avenues for passenger travel between the two countries and strengthens bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector.

A code-share agreement allows airlines to jointly operate flights, marketing them under their own flight codes. This significantly expands route networks, offering passengers more travel options and convenient connections.

Under the agreement, travelers flying the Tashkent–Baku and Baku–Tashkent routes will now have access to nine weekly flights operated by both carriers. This enhanced frequency offers greater flexibility and comfort for both outbound and return journeys. In addition, transit passengers will benefit from a wider range of onward connections, further elevating the status of Tashkent and Baku as international transit hubs.

Uzbekistan Airways will also provide access to AZAL’s flights on the Samarkand–Baku–Samarkand route, enabling residents and visitors of one of Uzbekistan’s main cultural centers to travel directly to Azerbaijan.

Commenting on the agreement, Shukhrat Yadgarov, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Commerce and Tourism at Uzbekistan Airways, stated: "Each new agreement brings our cities and cultures closer together. Our partnership with AZAL is not just about improving service quality — it’s a symbol of growing ties between our nations. We believe this agreement will be a bridge to new opportunities in tourism, business travel, and personal connections."

Jamil Manizade, Commercial Director of Azerbaijan Airlines, added: "Partnering with Uzbekistan Airways is a natural step toward expanding our route network and strengthening friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Our goal is to offer passengers greater convenience, flexibility, and more destinations for comfortable travel. This agreement contributes to enhancing regional connectivity and the tourism industry."

The signing marks a major step in improving transport connectivity between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, supporting increased passenger traffic, business and cultural exchanges, and higher service quality through the combined efforts of two of the region’s leading airlines.
