Uzbekistan and Georgia Strengthen Cooperation in Tax and Customs Policy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 15 to 17 July, an Uzbek delegation led by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Akhadbek Khaydarov paid a working visit to Georgia.
During the visit, a series of substantive meetings and discussions were held, focusing on tax, budget, and customs policies, as well as administrative practices in these areas.
The delegation held negotiations with Georgia’s Deputy Ministers of Finance Mamuka Baratashvili and Ekaterine Gunsadze, as well as with the First Deputy Head of the Revenue Service Paata Kiladze. The parties exchanged views on key reforms implemented in Georgia in the fields of tax and customs administration, and discussed the development and execution of medium- and long-term strategies, along with the results achieved.
The Uzbek delegation closely examined Georgia’s experience in several areas, including evaluating the effectiveness of tax and customs incentives, implementing digital solutions in the fiscal sector, improving the VAT system, applying risk-based approaches in tax control and audits, and operating a unified treasury account mechanism to manage tax and budget flows. These practices were compared with current approaches in Uzbekistan.
Special attention was given to reforms within Georgia’s customs service. The delegation met with relevant officials to study the digitalization of customs administration, border control procedures, vehicle clearance processes, and the operation of targeting and risk management systems.
As part of the visit, the Uzbek delegation also toured the Sadakhlo border customs checkpoint and the Tbilisi customs clearance zone, gaining firsthand insights into their operational practices.
Following the visit, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation between Georgia’s Ministry of Finance and Uzbekistan’s relevant institutions.
Future collaboration will focus on shaping tax and budget policies, macroeconomic planning, improving public services for the business sector, and jointly modernizing systems for tax and customs administration.
