Uzbekistan and Germany Expand Cooperation in the Healthcare Sector
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation led by Deputy Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Farhod Tashpulatov visited Germany to participate in the meeting of the Uzbekistan–Germany Joint Intergovernmental Commission.
As part of the visit, the Uzbek side held a series of bilateral meetings with executives from leading German companies and organizations. In particular, a meaningful discussion was held with Jochen Anton-Beuk and Ralf Lerch, members of the board of DZ Bank.
The meeting focused on prospects for attracting direct investment in Uzbekistan’s healthcare sector and the bank’s participation as a financial partner in public-private partnership projects. Following the discussions, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and DZ Bank, which provides for the financing of priority projects on preferential terms.
Further negotiations were held with Opasco CEO Aleksey Sverdlov and Siemens Healthineers representative Sebastian, during which the parties discussed the launch of joint projects in the medical field. Key topics included staff training, upskilling of specialists working with supplied equipment, and ensuring reliable and systematic technical maintenance of Siemens medical equipment. The possibility of establishing a specialized service center in Uzbekistan for Siemens equipment was also considered.
During a meeting with Matthias Wittbrock of AKA Bank, detailed information was presented about Uzbekistan’s healthcare reform priorities and potential. As a result of the talks, another memorandum of bilateral cooperation was signed.
In addition, meetings were held with Martina Koch, Head of the Asian Health and Social Protection Mission at the German Development Bank KfW; Alexander Cheppiknapp, an expert on tendering and procurement procedures for KfW projects; Daniel Passon, Head of the GIZ Mission for the Eastern Balkans, Central Asia, and Western Europe; and other sector specialists.
Negotiations were also conducted with Julius Nagel, Regional Director of Dräger, as well as with representatives of Mangold Consulting and BINZ.
The parties discussed the phased establishment of local production of medical equipment in Uzbekistan.
