Uzbekistan and Rosatom to Establish Radiation Sterilization Center for Medical and Food Industries

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Agency for Atomic Energy under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzatom), in cooperation with Russia’s state corporation Rosatom, plans to launch a project to establish a multifunctional radiation sterilization center for processing medical devices and food products. This was announced by Uzatom Director Azim Akhmedkhadjaev during a session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

According to him, the official signing of the relevant agreement is scheduled for 20 June as part of the forum's agenda, TASS reports.

“On 20 June, we will sign the document on a multifunctional irradiation center. Together with Rosatom, we are implementing a project for a radiation sterilization complex — for medical devices and food products,” Akhmedkhadjaev stated.

He noted that the future complex will have a logistical throughput capacity of over 10,000 tons of products per year. This will enable the application of advanced technologies to enhance product safety and quality, while also boosting the country’s export potential.
