Uzbekistan and Sojitz Discuss Major Investment Projects in Energy and Healthcare
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 3 July 2025, Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akram Aliyev held talks with President and CEO of Japan’s Sojitz Corporation, Kosuke Uemura.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed practical aspects of implementing several large-scale investment projects. These include the construction of a multidisciplinary hospital in Samarkand under a public-private partnership (PPP) framework, the development of a 1,573 MW combined-cycle power plant in the Syrdarya region, and the construction of a 1 GW wind power plant in the Navoi region.
Special attention was given to strengthening the strategic partnership, with both parties emphasizing the importance of expanding the joint investment portfolio in key sectors such as energy, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Sojitz Corporation is one of Japan’s largest conglomerates, founded in 2004. The company operates across various industries, including energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare. Sojitz has total assets of US$19.2 billion and employs more than 25,000 people worldwide. In June 2024, the company opened its representative office in Tashkent, and in September, a strategic roadmap for bilateral cooperation was signed.
