Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Strengthen Cooperation in Healthcare
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Health hosted a meeting between Minister Asilbek Khudayarov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan, Shadurdy Meredov.
During the talks, it was noted that in recent years cooperation between the two countries in the medical field has been steadily strengthening, thanks to active and constructive dialogue at the level of heads of state. A clear reflection of this progress is the expansion of practical collaboration in healthcare.
Special attention was given to the issue of personnel training. Currently, more than 400 Turkmen students are studying at medical universities in Uzbekistan. In addition, joint events with the participation of specialists from both countries are regularly organized. Notably, in 2024, within the framework of the International Ophthalmology Congress in Tashkent, the Central Asian Glaucoma Alliance was established and a corresponding memorandum was signed.
The parties emphasized that the potential for bilateral cooperation in medicine remains significant. Promising areas include the training of highly qualified specialists and strengthening scientific capacity, quality control and certification of medicines, exchange of experience, as well as the development of platforms for the introduction of innovative technologies in healthcare. Special importance is also attached to the expansion of scientific and practical conferences, forums, training sessions, and workshops.
Discussions also touched upon the visit of a delegation from the medical cluster of Arkadag city to Uzbekistan and the establishment of partnerships with Uzbek specialists and entrepreneurs working in the healthcare sector.
Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening cooperation in the medical field. The ambassador also familiarized himself with the activities of the Digital Health Center established under the Ministry.
