Uzbekistan and World Bank discuss public procurement capacity development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 13 May 2025, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Kamrul Hassan, Regional Procurement Group Leader for Central Asia.

The meeting focused on reforms in the public procurement system, strengthening human resource capacity, and knowledge exchange within the framework of key cooperation priorities.

A major topic of discussion was the development of the Ministry’s Training Center into a modern "Center of Excellence in Public Procurement." Proposals included the introduction of a continuous professional development system for procurement officers financed by international financial institutions, and the creation of undergraduate and graduate-level academic programs in cooperation with higher education institutions.

Plans were also considered for launching a certification system through short-term courses and the development of specialized training curricula aimed at building a qualified talent pool in public procurement.

The parties also agreed to organize roundtables, seminars, and exhibitions to promote products that meet green standards, and to develop an electronic system for determining initial prices in public tenders.

A detailed action plan will be developed for the implementation of these initiatives, and World Bank experts will be engaged to provide international expertise.
