Uzbekistan Green Energy Output Surges 28% in 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan's solar and wind power stations have generated 5 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity since January 1, 2026 — a 28% increase over the same period last year, according to official data recorded at 1:00 p.m. on June 8.

The milestone highlights a sharp acceleration in output: the country crossed the 4 billion kWh threshold as recently as May 14, meaning it produced the next billion in roughly three weeks.

Solar photovoltaic stations accounted for the larger share, generating 3.048 billion kWh, while wind farms contributed 1.952 billion kWh.

The environmental and fiscal dividends are substantial. Solar and wind generation alone has displaced 1.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas consumption and prevented the release of 2.9 million tonnes of harmful emissions since the start of the year.

When hydro capacity is factored in, the cumulative picture is broader still. All renewable sources combined — hydro, solar, and wind — produced 8.12 billion kWh through June 8, saving 2.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and averting more than 4.6 million tonnes of emissions.

To contextualize the scale, officials estimate that total renewable output is equivalent to six months of electricity consumption for 6.6 million households, or a full year's supply for 3.3 million homes.

Uzbekistan has set ambitious renewable energy targets as part of its long-term economic reform agenda, aiming to raise the share of renewables in its electricity mix to 40% by 2030. The 2026 figures suggest the country's generation capacity is scaling faster than baseline projections had anticipated.
