Uzbekistan launches “Week Against Forced Labor” in schools and kindergartens

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting from 15 August, all schools and preschool institutions across the Republic of Uzbekistan are holding the “Week Against Forced Labor,” announced by the Ministry for Poverty Reduction and Employment.

As part of the campaign, the labor inspectorate will conduct monitoring activities (raids) in all educational institutions to identify cases of forced labor.

In recent days, reports have surfaced of teachers and preschool staff being subjected to compulsory work, indicating violations of citizens’ labor rights.

According to media and social network sources, around 10 such cases have been confirmed.

Administrative penalties have already been applied to responsible officials. In addition, relevant ministries and agencies have received formal notices to investigate the causes of the violations and eliminate conditions that could lead to their recurrence.

During the “Week,” accountability measures will be applied not only to employers but to all officials who permit instances of forced labor.
