Uzbekistan Records Significant Growth in Business Activity Index
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) has released data on the Business Activity Index (BAI) for July 2025.
According to the monitoring results, the index reached 1,159 points, which is 15.9% higher than in June of this year and 14.3% above the same period last year.
Index Component Dynamics
The growth in the BAI in July was driven by several factors. The number of banking transactions by business entities increased by 3%, while the intensity of raw material purchases on the commodity exchange rose by 33.2%. The total number of active business entities remained stable, and trademark registrations saw a surge of 51%.
Regional Trends
Positive index dynamics were observed in most regions of the country. The highest growth was recorded in Bukhara Region at 47.9%, Surkhandarya Region at 42.8%, Namangan Region at 35.4%, and Samarkand Region at 33.8%. A decline was noted in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (–2.2%), Khorezm Region (–2.4%), and Syrdarya Region (–0.2%).
Banking Activity
In July, interbank payment operations totaled 6.5 million transactions, marking a 3% increase from June. Growth was observed across all regions, particularly in Syrdarya (23.4%), Andijan (21.2%), Jizzakh (14.8%), and Bukhara (9%) regions.
Commodity Exchange
The exchange component of the BAI reached 1.3320, up 33.2%. This increase was driven by a 38.2% rise in the average physical volume of goods and a 28.2% growth in the number of transactions. The total turnover of the Republican Commodity Exchange in July amounted to 6.7 trillion soums, 2.8% higher than in June.
Business Entities
The number of active enterprises totaled 488,600, a decrease of 1,016 compared to June. Large enterprises increased by 22 units, reaching 3,971, while small enterprises decreased by 944 and farms by 94.
Trademark Registration
Activity in the field of intellectual property protection showed notable growth. In July, 468 trademarks and brand names were registered, boosting this component of the index by 51%.
