Uzbekistan’s Pharmaceutical Development Agency Studies China’s Experience in Biopharmaceuticals and Medical Device Registration

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a working visit to China, a delegation from the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry held a series of important meetings aimed at strengthening cooperation and attracting investment into Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical sector.

At the BRICS Countries Special Economic Zones Cooperation Center, the agency’s representatives familiarized themselves with the center’s operations and the conditions offered to resident companies. Agency Director Abdulla Azizov presented the Tashkent Pharma Park project, outlining the opportunities and incentives available to investors. Discussions also covered the organization of a visit by the center’s working group to Uzbekistan, as well as potential joint projects and investor engagement in the pharmaceutical industry.

The delegation visited one of China’s largest biopharmaceutical hubs — China Biopharma Town in Hangzhou — where they reviewed facilities for scientific research, clinical trials, and modern production infrastructure.

At Hangzhou Jiuyuan Gene Engineering, the Uzbek side gave a detailed presentation of the Tashkent Pharma Park project. The Chinese hosts toured laboratories and technologies, and talks focused on prospects for bilateral cooperation, mutual recognition of standards, and the possibility of producing semaglutide biosimilars in Uzbekistan.

The delegation also met with the leadership of the Zhejiang Institute for Medical Device Testing, where they studied China’s national system for registering medical devices and learned about the registration process for specialized optical technology-based medical products.

Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to cooperate and exchange expertise in regulating the production of medical devices.
