Uzbekistan’s President Expresses Condolences to Afghanistan Following Devastating Earthquake

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has extended his condolences to the leadership of Afghanistan in connection with the numerous casualties and injuries resulting from the powerful earthquake in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces.

According to the government of the Taliban movement, the tremors, measuring 6.0 in magnitude, have claimed the lives of more than 800 people, with around 2,800 others injured.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health warns that the death toll may increase significantly.

Kunar province, where the earthquake’s epicenter was located, has been particularly hard hit. Accurate information on the number of dead and injured is currently unavailable due to disruptions in mobile communications and limited access to some areas severely affected by the disaster.

Rescue teams are attempting to reach remote villages, where the number of victims could amount to dozens, Reuters reports.
