Woman Detained at Tashkent Airport on Suspicion of Human Trafficking
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement officers have detained a woman at Tashkent International Airport on suspicion of involvement in a human trafficking crime, according to a statement from the press service of the Tashkent Main Department of Internal Affairs.
According to the investigation, the suspect had established contact with a young woman through social media, successfully gaining her trust. During their communication, she allegedly promised the girl a high-paying job in Türkiye. It was later revealed that the woman had lived in Türkiye for the past five years and had returned to Uzbekistan only 20 days prior.
The arrest took place directly at the check-in counter for a flight to Istanbul. Upon inspection, authorities confiscated passports and airline tickets from the suspect. During the initial interrogation, the woman claimed she merely intended to show the girl around Türkiye and had no criminal intentions. She expressed remorse and apologized for her actions.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Human Trafficking”). Investigative measures are currently underway to determine all the circumstances of the incident.
