World Bank financial sector reform mission starts work in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A World Bank mission has started its work in Uzbekistan focused on reforming the financial sector.

As part of the World Bank's technical assistance program, the mission's goal is to reform the system protecting the rights of financial service consumers.

The mission primarily focuses on implementing a new regulatory framework aimed at achieving concrete positive outcomes for financial service clients. Additionally, legislative reforms planned for 2025–2026 and the development of a phased plan for establishing a financial ombudsman institution are being discussed.

The mission’s visit includes discussions of two key documents prepared by World Bank experts: the concept of financial service consumer protection and guidelines for monitoring the financial market.

These documents, which incorporate best practices from countries such as the UK and Canada, will serve as an important foundation for creating a fair and transparent financial system in Uzbekistan that prioritizes consumer protection.
