Yandex Uzbekistan Launches Real-Time Traffic Light Signals in Navigation Apps
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Yandex Uzbekistan is piloting a new feature that displays real-time traffic light signals in its navigation apps — Yandex Maps and Yandex Navigator. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
With this update, users will be able to see the current traffic light signal directly on their smartphone screens — a particularly useful function in low-visibility conditions. A countdown timer will also be introduced in future updates, helping drivers anticipate wait times at intersections and plan maneuvers more effectively. The innovation is aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic accidents.
For now, the feature is operational in selected areas of Tashkent, including Amir Temur Avenue and the intersection of Tiklanish and Gulyor streets. The technology will gradually be expanded to other districts of the capital and eventually to cities across the country.
Real-time traffic signal visibility is expected to not only enhance driving comfort, but also improve estimated arrival times, help drivers maintain a smooth "green wave" through intersections, and optimize routes and fuel consumption. This functionality is already available in mobile apps as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Future integration into the Yandex Go service is also planned, which will improve taxi arrival time accuracy.
This initiative reflects Yandex Uzbekistan’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge digital solutions to improve convenience and safety for all road users.
