Uzbekistan and Germany to boost cooperation in education

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Germany have been boosting cooperation in education sector within various bilateral and international educational programmes and projects.
An article published at the website of the Federal Ministry of Education and Scientific Research was dedicated to the cooperation in education sphere between two states.
The article welcomed new EU educational project Sustainable Agrarian Management Studies for Uzbekistan/SAMUz, which was launched in December 2013. Germany’s University of Giessen coordinated the project.
Michael Schmitz, head of the project and professor of University of Giessen, in interview to Jahon news agency said that Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Land-reclamation, Tashkent State Agriculture University, Andijan Agriculture Institute, Samarkand Agriculture Institute, Termez State University and other organizations are partners of the project. Several German universities are also participating in the project.
Within the projects, young Uzbek specialists can familiarize with rich scientific-technical experience of Germany and European states in agriculture sector, he said.
The project is financed by EU’s Tempus project and designed for 2014-2016. Total cost of the project is over US$750,000.
The SAMUz project intends to promote the relevance and quality of agricultural higher education in Uzbekistan by reacting to the changed needs of the labour market after transition, becoming adaptive to globally changing conditions and the necessity of sustainable development, and iii) delivering ecologically and economically sustainable agrarian management studies at farm, sector and political level. As a consequence, SAMUz contributes to the improvement of rural welfare in Uzbekistan.
The specific project objective is the establishment of a modernised and Bologna aligned three level higher education system in the area of farm management and agricultural economics at all Uzbek Agricultural Universities through adjusted and newly developed curricula on BA and MA level and a newly created PhD school, improved teaching competences and materials, enhanced university-business cooperation, and implemented quality assurance policies and procedures according to European Quality Standards.
Michael Schmitz said that currently 20 students from Uzbekistan are studying at the University of Giessen. He highly rated their training and skills.
