Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 15,000 hectares of low-yielding land, used for cotton production, will be transferred to production of red paper in Karakalpakstan in 2018, UzA reported.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to expand the cultivation of this highly profitable crop in the country during his trip to Aral Sea region.
During his recent visit to Karakalpakstan, the President of Uzbekistan presented a project on production and export red pepper.
The President gave instructions to reduce low-yield cotton fields and grow red pepper, ripening within 60-80 days.
The head of state noted the need to increase the cultivation of this culture in every province of Uzbekistan. In planting and organizing agrotechnical activities, local farmers will be assisted by specialists from Indonesia.
Farkhod Ermonov, the hokim of the Beruni district, told UzA that a group Uzbek officials and specialists visited Indonesia. It is planned to plant red pepper, imported from Indonesia, to 1,000 hectares of land in 2018.
When asked if it was better to grow local varieties of red pepper, he answered: the bitter taste of local pepper varieties is 3.4 points, while the bitter taste of pepper from Indonesia has 7.8 points, that is, it meets world standards and is well exported.
Farkhod Ermonov noted that from the harvest of such a variety from each hectare it is possible to get profit for abour 20-27 million soums, which is several times higher than the profit from cotton.
