Uzbekistan develops draft presidential resolution to simplify transit procedures

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan developed a draft resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at simplifying procedures for transit through the country, creating reliable transport transit corridors and increasing the flow of transit traffic.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the document envisages abolition of procedure for obtaining permission from the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan for transit of alcohol and tobacco products through the customs territory of Uzbekistan.
The document also eliminates need for carrier to deposit the entire amount of monetary security for payment of corresponding customs payments (customs duty, excise tax, VAT) to deposit account of customs authorities of Uzbekistan with subsequent return of the amounts paid after confirming the fact of export of products outside the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The specified order was established by the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 4 October 2007 No. PP-703 “On measures to further streamline transit of certain types of excisable goods through the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan of alcohol and tobacco products by road and rail”.
In connection with the adoption of the above-mentioned document, there were almost no transit of alcohol and tobacco products via territory of Uzbekistan.
It is expected that abolition of the order will greatly simplify procedures for transit through the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan and will serve as an impetus for a further increase in the volume of transportation.
