Uzbekistan plans to stop export of cotton fiber by 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to halt the export of cotton fiber by 2025 and ensure its full internal processing, the head of the Department of strategic forecasting of the Association “Uztekstilprom” Dilbar Muhammadova said.
Dilbar Muhammadova noted that enterprises of Uzbekistan in 2018 will be able to process about 520,000 tonnes of cotton fiber. At the same time, the designed capacity of enterprises is 720,000 tonnes.
Deputy Prime Minister Nodir Otajonov said that Uzbekistan is moving to a new stage in the development of industry. In Uzbekistan, textile clusters have been created and are working, he added. The industry attracted more than US$3 billion of direct investment.
According to him, cluster farms are now being created to grow, process and produce finished textile products.
He underlined that today 15 cluster farms operate in the country and several more such farms will be created in 2019.
The Uztekstilprom Association implements the program of diversification and modernization for 2018-2021. The cost of the program is US$2.5 billion.
As a result, Uzbekistan will increase the production of textile products 2.6 times and the volume of exports - 4.7 times to US$7.1 billion by 2025.
Uzbekistan annually produces about 3.5 million tonnes of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tonnes of cotton fiber. Uzbekistan exports about 50% of cotton fiber.
