Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Belarusian specialists are ready to participate directly in construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, the Ambassador of Belarus to Uzbekistan Leonid Marinich told UzA.
The ambassador noted that cooperation in the field of nuclear power can become a new breakthrough direction of our cooperation.
“Belarus, together with its Russian partners, will soon complete the construction of its own nuclear power plant - the first power unit is planned to be commissioned in 2019, the second - in 2020,” the diplomat said.
“As far as we know, Uzbekistan plans to build its own nuclear power plant by 2028. Belarusian design and construction organizations have gained some experience in construction of nuclear power facilities. In the universities of our country, new areas of education have emerged, according to which personnel will be trained for the renewed energy industry of the country,” he stressed.
“Belarusian specialists are ready not only to participate directly in the construction of nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan, but also to ensure the supply of equipment and tppls, provide advice, conduct training of personnel,” Leonid Marinich added.
In July 2018, the President of Uzbekistan stated that Uzbekistan and the state corporation Rosatom had agreed to build a nuclear power plant in the republic.
The nuclear power plant will consist of two power units with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts each. The safest and modern power unit in the world is allocated for construction of the nuclear power plant. Its commissioning is planned by 2028.
Currently, the need for electricity in Uzbekistan is 69 billion kW / h. Almost 85 percent of this energy is produced by burning gas and coal, the remaining 15 percent are produced by hydroelectric power plants. To generate electric power, 16.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 86,000 tonnes of fuel oil and 2.3 million tonnes of coal are consumed.
