Bukhara Hosts 2nd Asian Women’s Forum with 20+ Countries
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The second Asian Women’s Forum was held in Bukhara under the theme “Investing in Women – A Foundation for Sustainable Growth: Expanding Political, Economic, Social, and Environmental Rights and Opportunities for Women.”
The event brought together high-level representatives from more than 20 countries and international organizations, including the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, international financial institutions, women parliamentarians from Asian countries, and diplomats.
In total, around 250 participants attended the forum, including representatives of government bodies, civil society, business, academia, and international institutions.
The President of Uzbekistan sent a message to the participants, which was read at the opening ceremony by the Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva.
Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva emphasized that gender equality is one of the key priorities of Uzbekistan’s state policy and noted that the forum was the result of an initiative put forward at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Participants noted that sustainable development is not possible without expanding women’s rights and opportunities, and stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation and experience sharing.
The forum included thematic sessions dedicated to women’s participation in public administration, the economy, science, innovation, education, digital technologies, as well as social protection and security issues.
Special attention was paid to the growing role of women in Uzbekistan, including increased participation in education, science, entrepreneurship, and politics.
At the conclusion of the event, participants adopted the Bukhara Declaration aimed at strengthening the role of women and enhancing cooperation across the Asian region.
